How we work

We sit, we listen, we discuss
The delivery of our programmes can either occur in the workplace and / or via arrangements with independent providers, such as polytechnics and private training establishments.
Industry training arrangements
Managing industry training arrangements for employers, trainees and apprentices is at the centre of what we do. The Skills Organisation is able to provide full training and assessment support to employees (trainees) towards attainment of a full qualification.
As an ITO we aim to be the key point of contact for industry when they are considering vocational education opportunities.
Successful partnerships
We work with partners such as the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, the Tertiary Education Commission, the Ministry of Education and Careers NZ to support the education-to-employment pathway and to simplify these pathways for learners.
Our partners include:
- Other ITOs
- Private Training Establishments
- Government Training Establishments
- Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics
- Wananga
- Schools
Research
An evidence base is important for informing the design and delivery of our services. We provide strategic leadership to our industries on matters relating to skills and training needs by:
- Identifying current and future skill needs.
- Developing strategic training plans to assist the industry to meet those needs.
- Promoting training that will meet those needs to employers and employees.
Identifying future skill needs can be approached in different ways. The Skills Organisation has chosen to undertake sector-specific research that looks at how skills and knowledge are developed and used in the workplace and labour market. We then use this research to review the current training systems for that sector.
In doing this, The Skills Organisation aims to provide leadership for its sectors by developing training arrangements that meet the sector needs but also contribute to increased productivity for the sector.
